Defendant was charged by information with violation of Penal Code section 286. Four prior convictions, three for similar offenses, and one for grand larceny, were also charged. Upon arraignment he admitted the prior convictions, and entered pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. The jury returned verdicts of guilty of "an attempt to violate section 286 of the Penal Code" and "sane at the time of the commission of the offense charged in the information."
